Perfect Timing by Jill Mansell Review

Perfect Timing by Jill Mansell
I have read a couple of Jill Mansell books and I have really enjoyed them. They are very light hearted books and I really enjoy reading these types of books.

Perfect Timing by Jill Mansell
The story is about Poppy who meets a guy on her hen night, she feels that she has known him her whole life and they arrange to meet but Poppy does not go. Poppy realises that she can’t marry her fiancĂ©. After leaving her fiancĂ© Poppy moves to London and she moves into a house with Caspar (who is an artist) and Claudia. Poppy finds out that her dad isn’t actually her father and tries to find her real dad. The book follows what Poppy gets up to after moving to London.
I really enjoy these types of books as although the plot line can be predictable at times it is stille very enjoyable to read. I find that I really connect with the characters and I want to find out what happens to them. You don’t just get a Poppy’s story but you get to explore the other characters as well something which I really enjoyed. All the characters get a happy ending, Claudia meets the love of her life someone that she never thought she would fall for. Poppy meets her real father and she also meets Tom again and moves in with him. Despite being in love with Tom things don’t turn out too well for Poppy. Poppy does find love in the end and she gets her happily ever after.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I really enjoy reading Jill Mansell’s books as they are light hearted and usually they have a happy ending.

NOTD: Bare Bones and Aurora

Revlon Bare Bones and Rimmel Aurora
Bare Bones by Revlon has quickly become one of my favourite nail polishes. Whenever I can’t decide what to wear I pick this. It is a really nice nude colour that works really well with my skin tone.

Revlon Bare Bones and Rimmel Aurora
Although by itself Bare Bones is really pretty I like to add a touch of sparkle. This time I used the Rimmel Space Dust in Aurora which is a gorgeous pink and silver glitter. Aurora had been on my wishlist for a while and I was lucky enough to find it in Poundland.

Revlon Bare Bones and Rimmel Aurora
Aurora is sort of glitter that you could wear by itself but I prefer to apply it on top of another colour as it makes it easier to remove. This combination lasted really well on my nails and I didn’t find it too difficult to remove. I think I will definitely wear this combination again as I really loved it.

Calvin Klein Cream Eyeshadow in Snakeskin Silver Review

Calvin Klein Cream Eyeshadow in Snakeskin Silver
After trying Bare Silk from this range I decided to pick up a few more shades from Poundworld. I really enjoy using cream eyeshadows as they are really quick and easy to apply.

Calvin Klein Cream Eyeshadow in Snakeskin Silver
I really like the packaging of these, they are compact so will easily fit into a makeup bag. I also like that the lids are the same colour as the product so you can easily find them in your collection. However considering that Calvin Klein was a high end makeup range the packaging does feel a bit cheap as the pot is made of plastic whereas the Maybelline ColourTattoos have a glass pot. I am not going to complain too much as I only spent £1 on it but I would have been disappointed if I had paid more for it.

Calvin Klein Cream Eyeshadow in Snakeskin Silver
Snakeskin Silver is a gorgeous cream/ champagne colour which looks lovely by itself or with another shadow onto of it. I like to apply NudeGlimmer from Fashionista on top of this as it works really well together. I really like wearing this as it is very quick to apply, I use a flat eyeshadow brush to apply it although you could apply it with your finger. If you aren't quick then blending can be difficult as it dries quite quickly however once it has dried it does not budge.

Calvin Klein Cream Eyeshadow in Snakeskin Silver

Overall I am really happy with this eyeshadow and I would pick more up from the range if I saw them in Poundland or Poundworld but I wouldn't  want to pay too much for them as I don’t think they are any better than the Maybelline ones which are only £5.

NOTD: Marylebone Mews and Westminster Abbey

Nails Inc Marylebone Mews and Westminster Abbey
I got Marylebone Mews in a Glamour magazine when they were giving away free Nails Inc polishes. Marylebone Mews is a really pretty grey with lilac undertones. It is a very unusual colour and I don’t have anything like it in my collection.

Nails Inc Marylebone Mews and Westminster Abbey
I really liked the colour and I decided to add a gold accent nail and I chose to use Westminster Abbey. I only needed 2 coats of it and it lasts well over a week before it started chipping. Westminster Abbey is a gold colour but it is very interesting to look at because it has flecks of other colours in it so in different lights it looks different.

Nails Inc Marylebone Mews and Westminster Abbey
I really liked this colour combination and I have really enjoyed wearing Marylebone Mews I have repainted my nails with it a couple of times. I think it makes a nice change from the normal colours on my nails as it is not something I would normally reach for.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Sweetie Review

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Sweetie
I’ve mentioned this lipstick before on my blog but today I thought I would do a proper review of it. I managed to get this lipstick for 89p as there was an error on the reduced sticker and instead of saying £4.89 it only said 89p. The only annoying part of getting this from the reduced section is that there was a sticker on it and it has left that horrible sticky bit where I couldn’t get all the sticker off.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Sweetie
Anyway now onto the actual lipstick, the packaging is the usual Rimmel packaging. This is from the Lasting Finish range and comes in a really nice deep burgundy case which has some glitter running through it and it has the Rimmel crown on the lid. I like the packaging of Rimmel lipsticks I think they look a lot more expensive than their £4.99 price tag.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Sweetie
Sweetie is a bright pink with blue undertones which help to make your teeth look whiter. This lipstick has a small amount of glitter/shimmer in it but it isn't too much so it is still very wearable. The lipstick applies smoothly and has a very creamy formula which isn't drying on the lips. I really like this lipstick it is in my favourite shade. I love wearing this sort of bright pinks. Some people will be put off by the shimmer in this lipstick however it doesn’t bother me.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Sweetie

I find that it lasts a decent amount of time. It lasts around 3 hours before you need to touch it up. With some dark colours they sometimes transfer to your teeth but I don’t find that to be a problem with this lipstick.

Winter Essentials

Today I thought I would share with you some of my beauty and random winter essentials. In the past few days it has been very cold so I thought now was the perfect time to share my essentials that I reach for when the weather is colder.

Winter Essentials
First thing is body butter, I use body butters and lotions all year round but in winter I use them a lot more as I find my skin is a lot drier. The one I have been reaching for is the Sanctuary Body Butter. It is so moisturising and the smell is amazing. I love applying this after I have had a shower in the evening as I can smell it for ages after applying it and smells so luxurious that it feels like I am at a spa.

Winter Essentials
For me hand and foot cream is essential especially when the weather is windy like it has been as my hands get so dry. My favourite hand cream to use at the moment is the Yes To Carrots Hand Cream this has a lot of natural ingredients such as carrot seed oil and sweet potato. It has a light scent and it leaves my hands feeling so soft and not at all greasy. I apply this throughout the day but I really enjoy applying it before I go to bed as when I wake up my hands are lovely and soft.  The foot cream that I have been using is Soap and Glory’s Heel Genius this is quite a thick cream so I apply it overnight and wear fluffy socks so it can absorb and my feet feel very smooth in the morning.

Winter Essentials
I change my nail polish all the time so my favourites are always changing. At the moment I am loving Nails Inc Marylebone Mews and OPI’s Diva of Geneva.

Winter Essentials
The Body Shop Chocomania Lip Butter has been a favourite of mine for quite a while but I especially love it during the winter as it is very thick and hydrating.

Winter Essentials
During the winter months I like to use a thicker moisturiser and I am currently really enjoying the L’Oreal Triple Active Day Moisturiser. I find that this really helps to moisturise my skin. I like this moisturiser as although it is thick it sinks into the skin really quickly and does not leave my face feeling greasy.

Winter Essentials
My favourite lipstick to wear at this time of year is the Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple. It is the perfect sheer red which I feel comfortable wearing during the day. It is really hydrating on the lips and isn't too bright.

Winter Essentials
Now for some random favourites. At the moment I am obsessed with the Nescafe Millionaire’s Shortbread Mochas I love a lot of these Nescafe sachets but these are my favourite at the moment. Hot drinks are a must for me all year but especially when it is colder. During the winter I love curling up in the evening and watching DVDs or reading a book. I have just finished The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty and I really enjoyed it. I got quite a lot of DVDs for Christmas so I am making my way through those on my watch list is Maleficent and Oz the Great and Powerful. I am also making my way through the True Blood box set and I am loving it.

What are your winter essentials?

Favourite Single Eyeshadows

Favourite Single Eyeshadows
Today I am going to be sharing with you 3 of my favourite single eyshadows. I have quite a lot of single eyeshadows but they are sometimes neglected as I use a palette more often as it has a wide range of colours in. However I do love single eyeshadows as they can provide a very quick look when I am in a rush. I like to use single eyeshadows  as all over lid colours and I will often reach for them when I am in a rush.

Favourite Single Eyeshadows
The first one I have to share with you is from Rimmel, it is from the Glam Eyes range and it is in the shade Tribute(130). I love this shade as I think it really compliments my eye colour on the back it says it compliments blue and green eyes however I think it would look good on everyone. The quality of the Rimmel eyeshadows is really impressive they are so pigmented and easy to blend.

Favourite Single Eyeshadows
The next one is a recent discovery for me. I am sure you have heard of Makeup Revolution as they have bought out some amazing products and a lot of people rave about their eyeshadow palettes (which are amazing) but I have fallen in love with this eyeshadow from their single eyeshadow collection. The shade is Sold Out and it only cost me £1. Although the packaging is simple the product inside is brilliant. This shade is so pigmented which is amazing considering it is only £1. I have a few of their other shades on my wishlist to try as I think they are brilliant.

Favourite Single Eyeshadows
The last one I have to share with you is an old favourite. It is a cream eyeshadow and it is the MaybellineColour Tattoo in On and On Bronze. I always reach for this when I want a wash of colour over my lids. I use this when I know I am going to be out for a long time as this is really long lasting and once you have applied it, it will not budge.

Favourite Single Eyeshadows
Until I photographed them I didn’t realise how similar these shades are to one another.  I guess I just love the bronzey browns as they seem to really suit me.

Do you have any favourite single eyeshadows?

Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding

Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding

Today I am going to be sharing my views on Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding. I am going to say something that I don’t normally say but I preferred the film to the book.
The book seems to just go on and on and I feel very little sympathy in the book for Bridget. In the book she is very annoying and always seems to be moaning about problems that are pretty small. Some people like this has they say it shows a ‘real’ person who they can relate to however I did not find that could relate to Bridget at all.
When I watched the film I enjoyed it because it was very simple and easy to follow. I really enjoy watching rom-coms so I did like the film although it wasn’t the best I had ever seen.  Obviously the film is a lot shorter than the book so they had taken out the boring bits from the book. When I was reading the book I really struggled to get through it. I found a lot of things seemed to be repeated and I did not like how above every diary entry it talked about weight and calories. I don’t think it was necessary to have this all the time. Bridget was obsessed with her weight and men, I personally feel that these are not important and I would have preferred it if the author had made Bridget happier with being single as her constant whining about not having a boyfriend was annoying and completely unnecessary as you don’t need a boyfriend to be happy.

Usually I enjoy reading these sort of light hearted romance books but this one was really boring. I did not like Bridget at all and as I result I was too interested in her story. I have the 2 other books in the series which I will read as I have them but I can’t say that I am looking forward to reading them. I’d suggest watching the film as it is a lot better than the book. I gave this book 2 stars out of 5 on Goodreads.

Have you read this book what did you think of it?

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Exotic Island Review

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Exotic Island
I picked up one of the Tanya Burr lipglosses to try out. Tanya bought out a collection of lipglosses and nail polishes and she has recently launched some eyelashes. I picked up the shade Exotic Island as it seems like a very me colour. Although there are lots of other colours in the range that I would like to try out.

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Exotic Island
I love the packaging of these lipglosses, they come in a clear tube with a black lid which has a pink heart on the top of it. Although the packaging looks quite simple I think that it looks very classic and elegant. The lipglosses are £6.99 and the nail polishes are £5.99 each  and can be bought from Superdrug or Feelunique. I feel that the pricing is a bit on the expensive side I wouldn't normally pay that much for a lipgloss or a nail polish.

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Exotic Island
What Feelunique says- 'Offering a state of the art finish and performance, each Tanya Burr Lip Gloss comes packed with moisturising ingredients to feed and hydrate the lips. Choose from rich beautiful shades in crème and shimmer finishes and each tube comes with a handy lip brush applicator for a glossy 'wet look', with long lasting shine.

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Exotic Island

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Exotic Island
The lipgloss comes with a doe foot applicator which is quite flexible which makes application really easy as it glides over your lips. This lipgloss is really pigmented and not at all sticky. They gloss is very creamy and comfortable on my lips. They last a pretty long time for lip glosses but obviously you will need to touch up throughout the day as is standard with most lipglosses. They do have a slight scent to them which might bother some people but I don't mind the scent after it has been on the lips for a while you can't smell it though. Exotic Island is a gorgeous bright pink colour which is my favourite shade to wear. I really like this lipgloss and I would be tempted to try more from this range despite feeling that they are slightly overpriced.

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Exotic Island

Overall I really like this lipgloss and as I mentioned above I would like to try some more colours. I believe that there are 20 colours in this range which is really impressive and there is something for everyone in this range.

Body Shop Haul (January 2015)

Body Shop Haul
Today I thought I would share with you what I picked up in the Body Shop sale. I didn't get too much but I still wanted to share the few items that I did get with you. Firstly I picked up 2 items from the Brazil Nut line which has sadly been discontinued. This line smells amazing, it has a smell nice sweet smell which I am in love with and I am really sad that they've discontinued it. I picked up the Body Butter and the Shower Cream. I can't wait to start using them but I might ration them so that they will last longer.

Body Shop Haul
As I bought these items online a lot of their Christmas scents had sold out but I did manage to pick up the Vanilla Brulee Room and Body Spray. I love vanilla scented products and the Body Shop do some amazing body sprays that are pretty long lasting. I have never tried anything from their skincare range so I thought I'd pick up a couple of things. I got the Tea Tree Face Wash as my skin has had quite a few spots recently and tea tree is good for clearing spots up. I haven't tried this yet but when I do I will let you know how I get on with it.

Body Shop Haul
I also decided to get the Vitamin E Moisturiser as I am running a bit low on my current moisturiser so I thought it would be a good idea to have one ready for when I run out. I've heard a lot of good things about the Vitamin E range so I am looking forward to trying this out. The last thing I got was a re-purchase, I got the Chocomania Lip Butter as this is one of my favourite lip balms it is so thick and moisturiser so it is perfect for winter time.

Did you get anything in the sale?

NOTD: Fall Mood

Revlon Fall Mood
Today I am sharing with you an NOTD. I have quite a few nail polishes from the Revlon Colourstay line and I really like them. The quality of the polishes is really good, they are long lasting and they apply smoothly with a wide brush. I don’t think I would ever pay full price for them though as I don’t like to spend more than £5 on one polish.

Revlon Fall Mood
You can often pick up these Revlon polishes in Poundland and other similar shops. They have a fantastic range of colours, there is something for everyone in this range.

Revlon Fall Mood
Today I am talking about the shade Fall Mood (140). Fall Mood is a gorgeous copper/ gold/ rose gold colour it depends which light you look at it in. I love it when a polish appears a different colour in different lights as it makes it a little bit more special. This is the perfect ‘Fall’ colour as it reminds me of the changing colour of the leaves but I think it is also suitable for winter as well.

Revlon Fall Mood
You only need 2 coats for this to be fully opaque, you can actually get away with just 1 coat but I prefer to apply 2 as I find that this makes a nail polish last longer. Despite it being a glittery polish it wasn't too difficult to remove.

What have you got on your nails?

ELF Baked Blush in Pinktastic Review

ELF Baked Blush in Pinktastic

I bought this after reading a blog post about highlighters. I love wearing a highlighter on the top of my cheek bones as I think it looks so pretty. However I have a very small collection of highlighters and I am always on the hunt for new ones. At the drugstore there are not a lot of highlighters although there are plenty of blushes available that can be used as highlighters. When I saw that ELF had a Baked Blush that would act as a highlighter I knew I had to buy. I really like ELF as they sell some amazing products at really affordable prices and I have tried another one of their Baked Blushes in Peachy Cheeky and I really liked it.

ELF Baked Blush in Pinktastic
The Baked Blushes cost £3.95 each and you can get them from the ELF website. They come in 4 different shades: Peachy Cheeky, Pinktastic, Passion Pink and Rich Rose. The packaging is very simple it comes in a black pot with a clear lid, although the packaging is simple it feels sturdy. I like that you can see the colour of the product and that the packaging is quite compact so it doesn’t take up too much space in a makeup bag.

ELF Baked Blush in Pinktastic
What ELF says ‘The soft and shimmering colour of our Baked Blush creates a natural healthy glow. Baked in an oven, these blushes offer rich pigmentation for a beautiful effect. The long-lasting formula provides a gorgeous, smooth and even application.’ (Taken from the ELF website)

ELF Baked Blush in Pinktastic

I apply this with my Real Techniques Setting Brush which I got in the Sam’s Picks Set. I apply this to the top of my cheek bones and it gives a really pretty sheen to my cheeks. This highlighter is a gorgeous champagne colour with pink veins running through it. This blush is really pigmented and gives a really natural glow to the cheek bones. The texture is really smooth and it applies evenly. I find it to be pretty long lasting it lasts around 6-7 hours before it starts to fade and you need to think about reapplying it.

ELF Baked Blush in Pinktastic

Overall I am really impressed with this highlighter, it is one of my favourite ones I own. I might do a post on my favourite ones or a collection post as I don’t have too many highlighters and I think that they can be quite difficult to find at the drugstore.
Have you tried this highlighter?
